Ivon Hickmon is a former Division I Student Athlete who has since become an Inspirational Speaker, Children's Author, and Founder of the IDU Brand. Coining himself  "The Hickmon Helper '' Ivon has dedicated his life to helping others and striving to build a community of Helpers. Football was The Hickmon Helper's gift that made room for education opportunities. Overcoming adversity during Ivon's freshman year of College was a story that many had to hear. A slightly above average football player who was not offered a football scholarship, Ivon was offered an ultimatum. Try out again next year or redshirt. Always paying homage to his late Father, Ivon's Dad was the 1st person he called for help during that crossroad. Ivon chose to pay for school while remaining on the team (redshirt). He could but only practice with his teammates, not allowed to suit up on game days.  Determination and sacrifice paved a way that would soon lead to his uprising play on the gridiron. The following season, Ivon earned his scholarship and earned MVP honors while being selected the most honorable position amongst his teammates, Team Captain. Playing in the NFL was soon becoming a reality and then, adversity greeted him again after he received his Masters Degree in Sport Management at MTSU. Ivon passionately shares his inspiring story to student-athletes, both high school & college. It's Ivon's story of redemption that illuminates rays of hope to the hearers. Ivon also serves as the Vice President of Athlete Cans, a non profit organization empowering student-athletes to reach their full potential in athletic and professional endeavors by instilling positive core values and leadership skills.

 

Ivon spends hours a month visiting both his Daughter's school, cultivating young scholars through the power of reading. During these visits, Ivon saw the need to have equal representation of black and brown kids in the books kids read and for kids to have an Author whom they could identify with. This propelled Ivon to release his debut Children's Book, "The Book Nobody Wanted to Read...Besides You", a fun & silly book that teaches the power of inclusion while introducing Young Scholars to Emotional Intelligence.  

 

Ivon's mission is to Serve, Empower, and Connect with the Young Scholars, Student-Athletes, and Business Professionals whether it's through his inspirational speaking or through his amazing book.
